This picture is from the 1700's and represents french fashion of that time era. I picked this picture for drape because I love the fashion from that time era. If I could wear a fancy dress everyday like the women did during that time period, I would. I think that the way these women dress were so elegant and graceful. When I look at fashion from this time period, I see nothing but beauty.

Here is a picture from the 1920's flapper era. I have always been a huge fan of the 1920's and I choose this picture for drape too. The way the dresses would move when these women danced are amazing to me. I also liked the fact that the dresses were shorter then the years before and would expose more skin, which to me added more sex appeal to the flappers.

This picture is from the 1950s and is my last choice for drape. Every time I see fashion from the 1950s I always think the women look like cupcakes. So many of the fashion from that time era were fitted at the waist and puffed out. I also think that the women of that time were very keen on being proper ladies. They would gloves when going out to parties or dinners and their hair would always be perfect. I for sure see Susie Homemaker when I think of the 1950s.

Here is a picture of a man's suit from 1878. It is from the Victorian era and is my first pick for tailor. I really love a man in a suit. I think a well tailored suit can make any man look like a million dollars. During this time period, most men only would wear suits when out of the house. Now, men only wear suits when going to work or a formal event.

Here is an image of a woman's tailored suit from the 1940s. Women started to enter the work force and needed something to wear besides a dress. Of course though instead of wearing pants, they would wear skirts to still signify their female attributes. I am happy that today, women can wear different clothes to work and not just a skirt or dress.

This is a picture of King Louis XIV from the 1600s and is my last picture for tailor. Being a king during this time era meant that you only dressed in the finest fabrics that were made during that time. Wherever King Louis XIV went, he had to be suited in the finest garments. In my opinion, I think being a king or queen during this time might not of been that great. There was usually someone that wanted you dead and that is never fun. The garments however are absolutely beautiful and lavish.

I think fashion has come a very long way since the beginning when humans were wearing nothing but animal skins. I think that fashion has had its ups and downs, but always made a statement during the different eras of fashion.

So this is about the six functions of dress, which are enviormental protection, decoration, gender differentiation, group membership, ceremonial and sexual enhancement.

1. Enviormental protection. I picked a ski jacket for this function of dress because it explains this function plain and simple. A ski jacket is used to protect us from the winter conditions, having water resistant fabric to block the snow and also protecting our skin from any accidents that might occur. Zhongde International Trade Co., Ltd. Spyder Ski Jacket.

2. Decoration. This function of dress I believe is the most used in today's society. It basically means that people dress in certain ways to that they like or think that other people will like it. I think decoration is the most common for people because we all have our own individual style. I choose this image by Betsey Johnson because I think she is one designer that really uses this function in her designs. This outfit is from her 2008 Spring collection.

3. Gender Differentiation. This function of dress is used for telling us what type of clothing women wear and what type of clothing men wear. There are many designers today that are getting inspiration from men clothing and creating a man's look for a woman. The picture I used is of designer Alexander Wang's 2008 Fall collection.

4. Group Membership. This function has to do with a group of people dressing a certain way so that outsiders know what they are apart of. I choose a picture of the famous Harajuku fashion. This fashion movement out of Tokyo, Japan is becoming more and more popular everyday. These people dress this way to be apart of this large fashion group. The picture is from November 2008.

5. Ceremonial. This function is widely known for weddings. Other times people dress this way are for graduations and funerals. This function takes place when because of an event, a person is required to dress a certain way. I choose a wedding gown by designer Vera Wang from April, 2008.

6. Sexual Enhancement. This function of dress is used when a person wants to enhance their sex appeal. Some women like to buy push-up bras to help enhance their chest to show it more. Victorias Secret is a huge fashion company that appeals very well to this function. They are always advertising products to help women feel and look sexier. I choose an image of model Adriana Lima on the cover of a catalog from fall 2008.

Hello everyone!! My name is Nydia and I have never blogged before, so I hope I do a good job for my first time. Well I am working on MFA in fashion merchandising and I am really excited about. I remember when I first fell in love with this industry. My mom bought me my first issue of Vogue back in 1998 when I was just 11 years old. Ever since then I have been wanting to be apart of this industry. Right now I am really loving Ralph Lauren. I think part of the reason is that my boyfriend is a huge fan of Ralph Lauren. I mean all of shirts are Polos. I find myself really getting into the whole classic look. I used to wear clothing that didn't really flatter me and I admit I was a little self-concious about myself, but I really am starting to love that more tailored look. I love fitted jeans and button down shirts. I live in Tampa, Florida and I am going to Orlando for the 4th of July weekend and they have great outlet malls, so I am hoping to find some great treasures. Well I hope my first blog was to everyone's liking!!! XOXO
