The first street trend is the zoot suit. The black and white image is of a man in a classic zoot suit from 1943. The color image is of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. Tom is wearing a modern suit by Armani. They were at a movie premiere in 2007 at Berlin.

The second street trend is teddy boys. The black and white image is from 1972. The gentleman's names are Tom, Dave, Steve and Keith. The location is Southend-on-Sea and Rochford Essex. The color image is from the spring/summer 2009 collection by Chanel. I thought the men's suits were a great modern take on the teddy boy. The third image is from the 2006 Marc by Marc Jacobs fashion show and I also thought this modern suit was a good take on the teddy boy.

The third street trend is the beatnik era. The first image is from the 1950s, and is a cartoon drawing of the beatnik style. The second image is from Betsey Johnson fall 2008 collection. The first start of the fashion show was inspired by the beatnik era and had men playing on bongos in the background. The image is from Emporio Armani fall 2008 collection shown in Milan. The entire collection was inspired by the beatnik and mod era of the 1950s.

The fourth street trend is from the mod era of fashion. The black and white image is of the famous Twiggy. The picture is from the 1960s and Twiggy was really represented the mod style. The second picture is from Luella Bartley spring 2006 collection. She made the collection from the inspiration of the mod era. The third image is from Ben Sherman spring/summer 2009 collection. Part of the collection was inspired from the mod era.

The fifth street trend is the era of the hippies. The black and white image is from the late 1960s and is a common photo of protesters wanting nothing but love. The second image is from Anna Sui spring 2008 collection. Her inspirations were hippies, folklore and the Russians. The third image is from Chanel resort 2008 collection. The collection was very based off of the hippie era. The collection had flow dresses, wide-leg jeans and head wraps.

The sixth street trend is the disco dance! The first image is from the famous movie Saturday Night Fever. It featured John Travolta and his famous white suit that he wore while doing the disco dance. The second image is from Dsquared spring 2009 collection. The entire collection was inspired from the disco era. The show actually started with three models doing the Charlie's Angels famous pose. The third image is from Gucci's spring 2009 collection. The collection wanted to bring back the disco era because of the music that was popular as well.

The seventh street trend is the 1980s punk scene. The first image is of the punk band Adam and the Ants. The picture is from the early 1980s. Music was a huge part of the punk scene during the 1980s. The second image is from the Marc Jacobs fall 2009 collection. The entire collection was inspired by the 1980s punk look. The third image is from Anna Sui's spring 2008 collection. She used the punk scene to create her entire collection. I love the fact that the model has different color hair!

The last street trend is hip hop. Hip hop made its way into the scene in the 1980s and has been around ever since. The first image is the rap group Run DMC from the late 80s. They were one of the few rap groups that really made it in the music scene. The second image is from Baby Phat spring 2008 collection. Baby Phat is created by Kimora Lee Simmons. The collection and label is a standard for hip hop style. The third image is from the Dsquared2 spring/summer menswear 2009 collection. The entire fashion show was dedicated to the music of hip hop.

A new street trend that is making its way in America is Harajuku fashion. Harajuku fashion comes from Tokyo, Japan and has been around since the late 1990s. A few years ago, Gwen Stefani introduced the harajuku style to the U.S. when she started her own solo record. In her music videos she had Japanese girls wearing the famous style. Ever since then, the trend is becoming more and more popular here and might eventually become popular world wide.

One more street trend that is really becoming popular is plaid. The use of plaid has been making a scene on the runway all the way to stores like Forever 21. From dresses, skirts and tops, plaid is showing up in every style and every color and pattern. The first dress in the image is from Lela Rose. The second garment is from Diane von Furstenburg and the last garment is from DKNY. I think this trend will show up again next season because the consumers are loving it so much.

I think street trends will come and go, but I do think that they will always make its way back into the fashion scene. Current and new designers need to look back at history and need inspiration for their new collections. I look forward to see what new street trends make their way onto the fashion industry.
